thecaravan x space15twenty

H&m Dress / Zara Vest / Costume National Boots / Cynthia Rowley Bag / Caravan Sunglasses / Hard Couture Headpiece

Last Sunday Michael and I set up a a last minute pop up sale for The Caravan at Space 15 Twenty. It was a picture perfect sunny day in Hollywood, I picked up fresh food from the bordering Farmer's Market, sold two MuuMuu's, played the "Let's guess what they do for a living" game (fun to play when you are in Hollywood) and even managed to spend half the money I made on the neighboring vendors. One thing to note though is thank-you to everyone who came by to the sale! We sold things for cheap...really cheap. So cheap that you'll have to come visit the next sale on January 29nth to find out what deals you'll be getting. Stay tuned folks!

the twilight hour

Club Monaco Cashmere Sweater, Sequin Scarf and Clutch / Free People Skirt / Max Azria Wedges / Super 'Lucia' Sunglasses

I took advantage of the golden hour to take some quick photos of my outfit. As you can tell, I'm still very much into sequins and sweaters, even post holiday season. Everyday should be an occasion to dress up anyway. Hope you guys like it!

palos verdes

Henry Holland for Le Specs / Givenchy Necklace / Milor Jewelry / Cynthia Rowley Bag / Glitter Senso Boots courtesy of Nasty Gal

I wouldn't be exaggerating if I told you that I've cruised down all the beach cities from San Diego to San Francisco the past six months. The same way that New York is not just definitive of the skyscrapers in Manhattan, California is not just the star studded sprawl of Hollywood and 90210. There's the wacky beaches of Venice, the tourist hot spots around Santa Monica, the retiree but cinematic coast around Coronado, the frat favorite in Santa Barbara, and my personal get-away spots are Nick's Cove near San Francisco, Seal Beach for the easy surf, the isolation at Crystal Cove and gasp-worthy views in Palos Verdes. Taking a Sunday trip to visit one of my favorite author's graves (Charles Bukowski) followed by lunch at a Trump estate was a reminder how much I love living in California. Sure we don't get a lot of seasonal variation, but with this type of ridiculous warm weather (and sometimes, ridiculous people) available all year round, it'd be hard not to appreciate it once in awhile.

winter white

Caravan Sunglasses / Club Monaco Silk Button Down / American Apparel Accordion Skirt / Miu Miu Platform Sandals / Cynthia Rowley Ostrich Satchel / H&m and Milor Jewelry

Starting the new year fresh with a look that's clean and crisp.
But for now, I'm off to finishing a thousand errands before the sun sets. Happy Monday guys!

happy 2012!

Snapped the first photo on the rooftop of a mansion located on the highest point of LA. The night started out with light dinner plans at Bottega Louie with Michael, Bethany, Adam and Peter with plans of attending a friend's party in downtown afterwards, only to discover the line that awaited us traveled all the way to Peru. With only a couple of minutes left before midnight, we rushed into a new game plan. The results: Spent the last few minutes before midnight watching every firework display from Downtown to Hollywood aloft this roof with a panoramic view, with a small group of friends instead of a large crowd of strangers. It's crazy how the most spontaneous events can lead to some of the most memorable moments. Happy 2012 everyone!

welcoming in the new year...

Holy crap! Looking back over this year's time line, I can't believe how many "coming-of-age" milestones I've reached. From the cheesy, life stills like attending my senior prom in high school followed by a dry eyed graduation, to the very many first "blog" related travels (namely a night at The Waldorf Astoria and attending Fashion's Night Out in Tokyo as a guest blogger), to the personal (entering my first serious relationship and starting my first semester of college), and all the traveling and opportunities interspersed in between: taking a series of unforgettable road trips across the country up and down the California coast and all around the East Coast, meeting the Missonis, shooting my first commercial, signing into an agency, and even starting up my own vintage shop. I know all this may not be particularly special to some people, but I think I'm more grateful than most anyway... Of course it hasn't all been all raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, but I think the New Year is a great time to reflect on last year's positive gains. Frankly I don't think anyone wants to hear the mundane or the horrifying events, like getting a car trapped in a desert hole in the middle of the night during Coachella weekend or almost getting mugged in Echo Park. I wish you guys the best for all the opportunities ahead, and thanks so much for sharing this journey with me. So cheers to the new year! Goodbye 2011, see you all in 2012!

an homage to ralph lauren

Vintage Dress & Stole / Caravan Sequin Seashell Purse (Coming Soon) / American Apparel 'Bronze Dash' Nail Polish / Milor Bracelet

Today's look pays an homage to Ralph Lauren's s/s 12 line inspired by the roaring 20's. I may be jumping the gun a season too early, but I'll just blame California's 80 degree December and a closet full of anything but winter clothes for an early prep course. Also I know we all hate fur on the internet, but this stole is a vintage piece I found at the flea market. (By providing that tidbit, I'm hoping to avoid internet trolling. I love animals, I swear!) I tried to keep this look authentically vintage as possible, except I cheated a bit with the needle-thin Aldo heels. But the fact that they were purchased second hand (albeit, in mint condition) makes it an exception good enough for me.

louis vuitton inspired

LF Tulle Dress / Vintage Sequin Dress / Club Monaco Clutch / Max Azria Nude Wedges / Ultra Bloggers x Joji Kojima Necklace / Milor Rings & Bracelets

This dress is special to me for two particular reasons. The first being that my sister had given it to me as a present for my 19th birthday this year, and the second was that it was the dress I wore to Michael Kors and Anna Wintour's birthday bash at the American Ambassador's estate during my trip to Tokyo. It's a dress that initiated only unforgettable memories on the last leg of my teenage years--more or less literally and figuratively "rubbed elbows" with one of fashion's most influential women while wearing it. I'm also wearing a Joji Kojima necklace as a bright remnant from the event, a gold cheers glass pendant exclusively made for the night paired with a fun headband with a pearl detailing I neglected to photograph. All that is missing from this Louis Vuitton s/s 12 inspired look is a carousel.

illuminating gold

Gold Zara Sweater / Pleated Missoni Skirt / Club Monaco Clutch / Karen Walker 'Number One' Sunglasses / Marni Platform Heels

Round two of this week's decadent dressing. In lieu of celebrating this week in excess, creating words to describe outfits with terms such as 'glossulating' seems appropriate in the specific circumstance of wearing a metallic gold sweater in broad daylight. Paired with a sparkly knit skirt by the one and only Missoni and finished a quick breakfast at The Filling Station only to promptly shoot a bedroom feature with Teen Vogue directed by Naomi. Can't wait to show you guys the results!

christmas brunch at the sunset marquis

Club Monaco Side Slit Dress & Sequin Sash / Versace 'January Jones' Sunglasses / 'Inside Out Bag' courtesy of Reed Krakoff /  Miu Miu Platform Sandals

Here are a few photos of my Christmas Brunch at the Sunset Marquis, and launching my first day of a week long post of thematic dressing. As a preface to New Year's I'm sifting through my rack of sequins, chiffon and multi-textured collection of rabbit / cashmere / and angora sweaters in homage to F. Scott Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby. I'm excited to take on this style challenge because a.) What better time of year to dress to the nines than the holidays? and b.) The 20's is in my top 3 favorite decades of fashion (last year I dressed up as Daisy Buchanan as seen on this post) and c. Frankly I want to experiment with this type of style before it becomes the next Black Swan. Aka. things I like becoming completely unaccessible (sold out) after something goes completely mainstream. So here goes nothing!Every year my family and I spend Christmas brunch at a new restaurant--this year it was at Sunset Marquis. Everything about this restaurant is a five star bona fide double thumbs up in my book. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is stellar, and the walkways produce the ambiance of a tropical rain forest that will put you at ease and erase the guilt of  all the fatty French food you just ate. The hotel walls are also littered with autographed photos of other cool cats that have possibly sat in the very same seat that I stuffed myself with a variety of continental cheese. If you live in LA, plan to visit or even just want to visit, I highly recommend stopping by Marquis' Sunday brunch. Book a reservation here. You can thank me after you taste the dessert table.
